About Us

Meet Dr. Underwood

Pediatric Dentist Dr. UnderwoodI grew up in a small farm town in Northwest Kansas. Whether I was teaching swim lessons at the local pool or leading the summer library reading program, I always had a passion for making an impact on children. Becoming a pediatric dentist has been such a satisfying accomplishment, as I strive to create positive experiences while delivering quality dental care. Building trust and friendship with children and parents is of utmost importance to me, and I look forward to being an integral part of your child’s dental health for years to come.

Education

I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated with high distinction in 2010, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Chemistry minor. During the last six years, I have attained a Doctor of Dental Surgery and a Certificate of Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. My residency provided me with a plethora of knowledge and experiences pertaining to the specialty of pediatric dentistry; and even though I have formed a solid foundation, my education will be ongoing as I keep up to date with the latest evidence-based research and advancements that are being made within this profession.

Family

Tinkerbell, my miniature yorkie, and I moved to Manhattan in early July 2016. So far, we have enjoyed long walks around the neighborhood, naps in the afternoon, and the occasional car rides together exploring our new community.

Community

When selecting where to plant my roots, Manhattan just felt right. It was important for me to first find a friendly neighborhood and immerse myself in it. Giving back is a personally rewarding experience, and I look forward to belonging to a community which encourages volunteerism and leadership. I am an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and the Kansas Dental Association. Locally, I am interested in becoming involved with church, Junior League, and the Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Club. My desire is to support this community I now call home for years to come, focusing my attention on being a positive mentor and supporter for the area youth. Even though I will always be a Husker fan, I am sure you will occasionally see me wearing purple and cheering for the wildcats, as I settle into my life in this wonderful community of Manhattan.

Meet Dr. Barth

Pediatric Dentist Dr. Tom BarthI have practiced the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry for over 38 years. I still look forward to seeing patients daily and nothing rewards me more than having parents and children enjoy their experience in our practice. I strive daily to make our office the best place possible for children to receive dental care in our region. I look forward to many more years of fulfilling that goal.

Education

I received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska in 1976. The next two years were spent in San Antonio, Texas, where I studied and practiced pediatric dentistry in a residency program at the University of Texas Health Science Center. I have continued to stay updated with the current trends in pediatric dentistry with over 2,000 hours of continuing education, which allows me to provide my patients with the most optimal dental care available.

Family

I have been married to my wife, Sandy, for 43 years. We have four children and thus far, 13 grandchildren. The Barth household has always been an active one and that hasn't changed over the years. In fact, it may be busier now than ever! Two of our children are dentists, one is a Marine pilot, and one is a construction engineer. We enjoy spending as much time as possible with each of them and their families.

Community

Giving back to our community and church is a big part of who we are. Through the years, I have coached twenty-eight different youth teams, was a Boy Scout leader, and served on the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board of Directors. I have been an American Dental Association delegate, and was a member on the Council of Dental Insurance for the ADA for several years. I have served as president of the Riley County Health Board, the Manhattan Basketball Association, the Kansas Society of Dentistry for Children, the Northwest/Goldenbelt District Dental Society and was Chairman of the Board of Directors at Via Christi. I currently serve on the Mercy Regional Health Center's Foundation Board. Sandy and I are very active in our church and have taught the confirmation class for over 12 years. We support KSU Wildcat athletics and continue to support the Nebraska Dental College , where I received my degree in dentistry and Sandy received hers in dental hygiene. We both look for ways to contribute our time and resources to programs in our community, with a special interest in those that help provide services to children.

Meet Our Staff:

Our practice employs a staff of ten. Included are a dental hygienist, three in the business office and five dental assistants. Collectively, they have over 100 years of experience in this office. They have become experts in making children feel at ease in the dental setting and continue daily to exceed my expectations of them. I feel very blessed that they are so loyal to this practice.
